According to the NET exam guidelines you can apply for the exam in the subject which you had in post-graduation or related to that.
As you said, you had completed your master’s in Mass Communication then you should apply for the UGC NET Mass Communication & Journalism.

Previously, NTA planned to give the liability to the aspirants to choose the date accordingly but for June 2019 no such rule was made.
The application form process for the June session was closed on 1 st April 2019.
