Yes, you sure should prepare for legal maxims while appearing for law entrance exam. The sections which law entrance exam usually have are legal reasoning, legal aptitude, legal English (which have legal maxim questions), comprehension, general awareness, quantitative aptitude.
The book or any source you are referring for preparation of this test will also prepare you for this section.

Lucknow university takes direct admission only when the seats are left vacant after the entrance examination, and mostly seats are left from the courses like B.tech/MCA/MBA only, others seats are already filled by counselling of entrance examination mostly for PG degrees.
So there is very less chance that you will get admission in PHD without entrance exam, now you haven't given the Entrance exam then you can either wait for the next year or in other reputed Universities.

According to my research I guess you should go for BANARAS HINDU UNIVERSITY for B.COM because of the following points:-

Lucknow University LLB 3 years course admission entrance test will be held in the month of July 2021. Syllabus of LLB 3 years Lucknow University entrance test is current affairs , general knowledge, aptitude test , legal knowledge, mental ability test. That is of total 100 questions ,time duration 90 minutes.4 mark is awarded for every correct answer and 1 marks deducted for negative answer. Total marks of LLB admission entrance is 400.

Ba LLB is 5 years law course. If you completed your 12tg then I will suggest you do BALLB. Its complete bachalor degree of LLB. But for this course so many examination are present. Most popular is CLAT.
Actually many law colleges are organised their own entrance examination. But you didn't mention any examination name or any college name. So I guess that you want to know the common law entrance examination syllabus. And CLAT is common entrance examination for law.
