Acrosome reaction is a calcium-dependent reaction involving massive uptake of calcium and sodium with an efflux of hydrogen generating high pH and osmotic pressure producing negative surface charge and release of acrosomal enzymes. It is induced by passage through the cumulus oophorus cells mediated by hormones they secrete.
