are nios students eligible for AFMC
Hello Dear Student,
AFMC's official MBBS eligibility criteria state that candidates must have passed the qualifying examination "as a regular candidate" in the first attempt with English, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology taken simultaneously.
At the same time, NIOS students are generally eligible for NEET-UG and for MBBS admission under National Medical Commission rules. NIOS itself is a recognized board, and open schooling is not a disqualification for NEET.
The important distinction is:
- NEET eligibility: NIOS students are generally eligible.
- AFMC eligibility: AFMC applies its own additional admission requirements, including the "regular candidate" condition.
Because AFMC's prospectus specifically mentions passing as a regular candidate, many counsellors and student discussions interpret this as excluding NIOS/open-school candidates from AFMC admission, even though they remain eligible for NEET and most other medical colleges.
So, if a student has completed Class 12 through NIOS, they are generally eligible for NEET and MBBS admissions elsewhere, but AFMC admission can be problematic due to AFMC's separate "regular candidate" requirement.
