The minimum eligibility criteria to appear in JEE entrance examination is 12th from a recognized board or equivalent examination.
You are eligible to appear in joint entrance examination after completion of your diploma in mechanical engineering. You can also appear in a lateral entry entrance test to get admission directly in the second year of engineering course.

Yaah definitely now he is eligible for writing one of the prestigious examination i.e Jee Mains which is going to conduct in both the session i.e in the month of January and in April. Ask him to make his preparation well and strong enough to score good marks such that he able to intake the admission in one of those elite goverment institutes of India .
