The GATE Score for Direct PhD varies with department and also the IIT . It is relatively very low compared to the score needed for getting an M.Tech seat .
For the new IITs like ropar jodhpur Indore patna mandi a gate score above 450 /1000 with excellent academic performance during B.Tech could get you call letter for Phd interview/test and later it depends on your performance in interview/written test. If your academics are decent and not adding a wow factor then you need a gate rank below 10000 or GATE Score >550 to see your name in the list of shortlisted.
