Yeah surely you will change your department after 1st year in VIT but that also require some criteria :

- 80% or 8.5 CGPA in your 1st year (Both semester)
- No arrear/back history in any subject.
- Availability of seats in that branch where you have to change.
- Proper and appropriate reason for shifting the branch
