Well, since cbse has made it mandatory to upload a photograph with white background do try to obey it. As, if you don't obey their rules, they may impose problems.

White background is a necessity.
Last year i faced the issue when i uploaded a blue background photo and had to change it.

Dear nadhini,
I think yes it is because once you upload your photo without white background they will immediately mail you to change your photo so to be on a safer side try to upload a photo with white background
