India has several of these institutes referred to as the College of Engineering. These were usually started when there were no other engineers in the entire region. Many of them are also among the most regarded in their field. One of them is the College of Engineering of Pune (CoEP) in Maharashtra. It was founded back in 1854, making it the third oldest engineering college in the country. Chronologically, it stands only behind those developed in Chennai and Roorkee. The total campus covers an area of thirty-seven acres of land.
This campus is situated at the merging of the two rivers Mutha and Mula, in Pune. The initial concept behind the creation of this college was the training of officers and supervisors at the Public Works Department (PWD). Due to the history and heritage of the COEP, the educational model has been adopted as the Poona model, a concept that has been in use since the 1950s. The COEP was initially affiliated with the University of Bombay, starting in 1886. At present, this college is affiliated with the University of Savitribai Phule Pune. This association also guarantees the recognition of the UGC (University Grants Commission).
The College of Engineering in Pune has been accredited by the NBA (National Accreditation Board). The institute is also linked to the GIAN (Global Initiative of Academic Networks) which provides a method for academics to keep their academic portfolios up to date on a consistent basis. The COEP operates programs at both the UG and PG levels. B is on sale at the under-grade level. Technical programs in the fields of engineering-Civil, Mechanical, Computer, Production, Information Technology (IT), Metallurgical, Electrical, Instrumentation & Control and Electronics & Telecommunications. Throughout Master's level, the courses become more advanced and detailed.
The library here is one of the best stocked in the city. In addition to the physical books on sale, it also offers digital access to a number of international academic journals for study and academic purposes. COEP also publishes Abhijaat, a student-driven newsletter to chronicle all campus activities. There's also a vibrant college community on campus. Some clubs are societies run to meet students' co-curricularand extra-curricular needs. These include Debate, History, Mathematics, Technology, Software Development, Spic Macay, Satellite, Robot Research, Cyber Security, and many others.
Placements here at the COEP have also been picked up accordingly.
