those candidate which are doing M.Sc in branch of science are eligible for the GATE exam.

Qualifying GATE in itself is an honour and adds value to your qualification. As you are an MSc student It can provide you a chance to pursue PhD from top notch institutes of nations i.e. IITs that too with the fellowship of Rs. 25000/per month and at National Chemical Laboratory. After completing the doctoral program students are absorbed in industry, academia with very good pay packages or they can go for post-doctoral research elsewhere.

Dear Rahul, the exam pattern will be the same for GATE no matter what qualification you bring to the table. Its just the syllabus would change. So the questions asked would be based on the specialisation that you want to opt for in M.Tech.
