Does lovely professional university (lpu) is AICTE approved college or not?
According to the Supreme Court, AICTE approval is required only when the course is being run by an institute. Lovely Professional University is recognized by many Accreditation councils of India & thoroughly recognized by UGC in 2006. AICTE approval is not required for a university to run a course in technical education as has been held by the Hon'ble Supreme Court in its judgement CWP2056 of 1999 titled BHARATHIDASAN UNIVERSITY & ANR. Lovely Professional University does not require an AICTE approval since it is already approved by UGC, a statutory body of the Government of India. In a major blow to AICTE, Supreme Court has ruled that an AICTE approval is not required for private colleges running University-approved MBA programs.

Two important points to note here:
1. LPU is a PRIVATE UNIVERSITY formed u/s 2f of UGC act via Punjab state legislature act in 2005.
2. Universities DO NOT require AICTE approvals, these are for the colleges which seek affiliation to some university to curate the technical programs.
So, LPU being a University, doesnt need AICTE approval but a UGC recognition which it has.

Dear Kowshik, recently my brother took admission in 3 years diploma course in LPU. We inquired the same question from my uncle who is at a good position in District Administrative Services. He told me that LPU is affiliated to UGC.
