There is no age limit criteria prescribed for the candidates for appearing in JEE Main examination so you are eligible to apply for gate 2022.
Taking a drop or not is an individual decision I believe that it would be better if you can decide it by yourself rather than asking someone else considering your confidence and your interest to crack the examination.
Don't worry about consequences of taking a drop as it Will not effect your career in any ways ahead perhaps if you crack the examination with a good rank you may get a great opportunity to study at one of the top Institutes in our nation.
