The career path to become a surgeon requires a background in biology. I have mentioned below the career path to establish a career as a professional surgeon.
Step : Completion of 10+2
Description: Candidates are required to complete 10+2 with physics, biology and chemistry with an aggregate of 50 per cent of marks from a recognised board.
Step 2: Qualify Entrance
Description: There are several national level and state level entrance examinations conducted by various authorities or examining bodies. Several universities and colleges also conduct entrance examinations to provide admissions. Candidates are required to prepare and appear in entrance examinations to get admissions.

NEET: National Eligibility cum Entrance Test
AIIMS UG: All India Institute of Medical Science Entrance Examination Undergraduate
JIPMER UG: Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research Entrance Examination Undergraduate
Step 3: Bachelor
Description: After successful completion of 10+2, candidates are required to enrol themselves in M.B.B.S. (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) programme.
Step 4: Post bachelor
Description: There are several options candidates have post bachelor to lead their career path.
After successful completion of M.B.B.S. programme candidates can opt for master's degree programme without any gap in the academic year. After that they can start working at an entry-level position.
After completion of M.B.B.S. programme candidates can start working at entry-level position. After gaining an experience of 1-2 years they can further continue their studies and opt for a master's degree in the related specialisation.
