IIT kanpur takes admission based on jee advance rank. so if you have rank(max) 5000. you'll get a seat. but remember you won't get trade you want. Better if you aim for 2000.

Dear Prajwal,
In order to take admission in IIT Kanpur you should qualify JEE Main exam first to be eligible for JEE Advanced.
According, to previous year JEE Main cut off was 81 in general category.
It is difficult to predict JEE Advanced cut off as JEE Advanced maximum marks are not defined :
Maximum Marks vary every year like below:
2017- 366
2016- 372
2015 - 504
2014 - 360
So, it is difficult to predict marks as exam pattern and marks change every year but you should score more than 50% marks to get good branch in Top IITs.
