I am suffering from muscular dystrophy LGMD 2B. Am I able to take course of MBBS
Now there are various stages of muscular dystrophy. Based on the extent of the muscle involvement or weakness, the eligibility under PWD is considered. If it os between 40-80%, then you are eligible for PWD reservation within your Category. Now if the extent is more than 80%, you will not be eligible for PWD reservation but that doesnt not hold you back from appearing for NEET and should you get a seat, you can join a Medical College as well.
According to MCI guidelines of 2019 for NEET, persons with disabilities (PwD) having a disability less than 80% are eligible for UG level medical courses. For Muscular Dystrophy, there is a criteria which states that :
- If your degree of disability is less than 40%, you are eligible to appear in NEET but you won't be eligible for reservation under PwD category.
- If your degree of disability is more than 40% but less than 80%, then you are eligible for both - appearing in NEET and 5% reservation under PwD category.
-If your degree of disability is more than 80%, only in that case you will be ineligible for appearing in NEET.
If your disability lies in the range of 40%-80%, you will need a Disability Certificate issued by a government approved centre as per RPWD Act -2016 to claim 5% reservation under PwD category.
If you have any more queries, you can ask in the comment section.
Hope this answer will help you.
Take care of your health.
