I think that you are saying about NITs because you are saying about the jee main rank. So with general rank of 88 thousand you get seat in small NITs or IIIT and I can not assure you that you may not even get the required branch you want. So my suggestion is that you try on for the counselling and wait till the last round to get the seat.
