- The candidate should have completed 3 years diploma in marine engineering/mechanical engineering/electric Engineering with atleast 50% score
- Candidate having diploma in 4 year maritime engineering diploma course are also eligible.
- Also, candidate must have scored atleast 50% in English in 10/12th standard.
- The diploma course should have been completed in 3 years stipulated time only

Admission in IMU is based on Indian Maritime University Common Entrance Test. The minimum requirement to appear in this examination is that the candidate must have completed his/her 10+2 level exams and must have passed with minimum aggregate of 60% marks in PCM and minimum of 50% in English.
