Hello Veni
The exam you have to write to get into IIT is JEE(Joint Entrance Examination) which is of two levels namely:
*JEE mains and
*JEE advance.
First you have to write JEE mains exam and get qualifying marks to write JEE advance.
Then you write JEE advance,if your score is good enough in jEE advance you get admission into IIT by attending the counselling.
Thank you
To get into any of the IITs you have to clear Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced with a good rank. But to be eligible for giving JEE Advanced Exam you first need to clear the cutoff (minimum percentile required to appear in JEE Advanced) in JEE Main exam conducted by NTA twice a year and should have an aggregate of 75% in class 12th exam or should be in top 20 percentile of your respective board.
To join any indian institute of technology, you need to clear jee advanced. But to get to jee advanced, you need to clear jee main. Through a good score in Jee main you can get into national institutes of technology. If your main aim is just studying in an iit, you can give jee main paper 2 which will get you to iit but thats only for design and architecture courses.
