Hello Pushpa, following are the points you should focus on:
Check the optional subject combinations allowed for the exam from their official website. Then select the subjects that interest you the most, and take up a Bachelor's degree in that. Do keep in mind that no degree is more/less suitable than the other, so pick the one you think you will be most comfortable studying.
The other part that candidates tend to overlook during prep is development of hobbies, participating in volunteer causes for society, and creating awareness of the world thru reading newspapers etc. These are also very important as the exam has a personality testing round. So please do not forget to do these.
Dear Pushpa,
It's good that you are focussed. You are appearing for 12th boards, I assume that you have already taken the stream of your choice. Next is to select the subject you would like to emphasize in for your civil service preparation. Take up that subject in your graduation. So, you have time, do exhaustive study. Understand the syllabus, practice previous year's question papers. Prepare exhaustively subjects like general studies, english and brush up on current affairs.
Wishing you all the best
It's good you have that kind of maturity about your career in 12 standard. What you can do is
Step 1: Know the Exam Pattern. The first step towards Civil Services is to familiarize yourself with the pattern of the examination. ...Step 2: Know the Exam Syllabus. ...Step 3: Preparation of General Studies. ...Step 4: Go Through Previous Year Papers.
Choose your graduation accoding to the list of optional subjects. You can go for BA as it's is most sought after degree if you are planning to give IAS.
I wish you all the best !!
Dear Pushpa,
In order to begin your preparation for the UPSC exam, you should first decide which optional you must take, go through the syllabus of the subject and most importantly go through the exam pattern. Go through the past years question papers. This will help you to prepare in the correct direction.
Since you have time on your side, you must now begin by studying from the NCERT books and then proceed towards studying from other books for each subject. Keep yourself updated with the latest happenings that are taking place at the domestic front and international front and in each and every sphere.
One must simultaneously prepare for prelims and mains. You must practice writing questions as much as possible.
Make sure that you read newspapers and magazines and have a discussion on current social, economic and political issues. This will help you at the time of interview. When you are in your final year of graduation, then you must take up mock tests as this will help you to assess your level of preparation and help you identify your weak and strong points.
Since you have the time on your side, make optimum use of it and come out in flying colours.
Wish you loads of good luck.
