iam a jee aspirant and my caste was obc it was recognized by state government of Karnataka but not recognized by central government of india am i eligible for general or ews please help me
Hii,
If your caste is recognized as OBC only by the state and not by the Central Government, then you cannot claim the OBC quota in central-level exams like JEE. For JEE (Main or Advanced), only those in the Central OBC list are eligible for the OBC-NCL reservation. In your case, you will be considered under the General category.
Now regarding EWS, if your family's annual income is below 8 lakhs, and you meet the other EWS eligibility criteria like not owning large land or a big house, you can apply under the EWS category even if you belong to a state OBC group. But for that, you must get an EWS certificate issued by the competent authority.
Hope this will clear your doubt!
There is no OBC reservation under the central OBC list hence even though you belong to OBC cast which is classified as OBC by Karnataka State Government you will not be entitled to OBC reservation in central level exams such as JEE Mains or JEE Advance. Your category would be considered General category in JE Counseling and Admission under JoSAA in such a kind of situations.
But in case your annual income is below 8 lakhs but you satisfies all other government requirement then you can apply in ews (Economical Worse Section) but you must be of a caste that is not included in the central OBC list. The same will require you to have a valid EWS certificate certified by a competent authority.
To summarize:
if your does not figure in the Central list then you are not eligible to get the OBC reservation in JEE.
you may apply as General or EWS (in case, you fulfil the income and certificate requirements).
Be very sure before JEE counselling, you get the right category certificate.
