Since you're in first yrear of B.com you have ample of time and try to utilisite it well and practice daily..Join coaching clASS Mock/Test series and know about your strength and weakness in each section. Take arun sharma book and practice all LOD's of it.. Brush up all the basics concepts. make sure you ace it by your 3rd year.
Practice it till you're perfect in it.
It isnt a set bavck being a commerce background student but an advantage in MBA in Finance over others.

You can start preparing for CAT from your 2nd year.
Preparation for CAT does not require a lot of time but it's advisable to start preparing early.Also,make sure to develop the ability of reading.
You can start reading newspapers and magazines from now.
Also,there is absolutely no problem in being a commerce student.
