The answer is yes. Hostel is compulsory for every students starting from 2019 batch. As VIT has made every course as residential course.

If you are asking about VIT Vellore, then, it is not at all compulsory to stay at the hostel while pursuing engineering course. It is optional whether you want to stay in the hostel or not. If you are from far away places, you can even opt for PG/Rental Apartments. If you are local student to Vellore, even, you can travel daily to college, and get back home. There is no as such provision to stay compulsory in the hostel at VIT Vellore.

Hostel is not compulsory for students in VIT.Students are allowed to stay outside the college premises in PG or at rent.There are lot of good accommodation facilities are available outside the campus.But generally students opt hostel for first year as they are new to the place .It totally depends on you .
