Is mbbs necessary to become a ophthalmologist or we should opt any other degree for ophthalmolgy
You can also opt for a B.Optom. course and further go for an M.Optom. to establish a career related to optometry. You may read an Optometrist career.
In order to become an Opthalomologist, you are required to possess an M.D. in Opthalmology with residential Internship. The minimum eligibility for an M.D. programme is successful completion of an M.B.B.S. programme.
Hello Gulnaz,
Ophthalmologists should hold a bachelor's degree, complete a 4-year Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) program and participate in an ophthalmology residency within a hospital for three years. So Mbbs is not compulsory to become an ophthalmologist, you can do the 4 year bachelor's program of doctor of medicine and it is compulsory to gain 3 year experience in an opthalmology department within a hospital.
Thank you
