no , it is not necessary to write all the five exams , your marks should be around 70% or the eligibility percentage as set by the jee mains .

It is not necessary for you to appear in all the subjects. You can appear in any of the five required subjects, in which case your percentage will be calculated by taking the highest marks obtained in those subjects. So, if you score higher marks in improvement exam, it will be used for calculating your percentage. However, if you end up scoring lower in that case you marks in the year prior to the improvent year will be considered.
In the other scenario, if you appear in all five subjects, then the best of two performances will be considered (either the improvment year or the year prior to it.
