UG Law degree in India is 5 years, in UK/ USA etc its mainly 3 years. Why so? My idea is to send my child out to get the UG degree in 3 years and then he can spend the rest of the 2 years (when I compare the time taken in India to complete the course) doing a PG/internship. Thoughts, plz
Hello,
The difference is mainly structural. In India, the 5-year LLB combines a bachelor’s degree with law, giving two degrees. The UK offers a standalone LLB, while the US generally offers a 3-year JD after graduation.
Studying abroad can work, but the degree may qualify your child for that country’s legal system, not automatically India’s. If practising in India is the goal, check BCI recognition and AIBE requirements before choosing this route
