The course of MD Microbiology is much similar to M.Sc Medical Microbiology, and thus, is subject to competition. The scope in India for this course though limited can be listed as:

Teaching in medical college along with diagnostics.

Practicing as a consulting microbiologist and infection control specialist at corporate hospitals.

Working as a senior resident in hospitals.

Working as a researcher at ICMR affiliated institutions.

DM infectious Diseases at AIIMS New Delhi as it is the only institute which allows MD Microbiology for DM infectious diseases.
