Dear Vikas,
As per the available information, you should be able to appear for NEET.
There are a total of 7 codes of eligibility provided by the CBSE in the NEET 2017 Bulletin with regard to a candidate’s qualifying examination. Candidates are required to fulfill the criteria specified in ANY ONE of the codes to be eligible.
As you have mentioned, Code 2 of the NEET 2017 Bulletin as released by the CBSE does mention that candidates must have passed their Higher/Senior Secondary examination after a period of 12 years of study, “the last two years of such study comprising of Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology and Mathematics with English”. As per this, candidates who have studied the subjects above in their Classes 11 and 12 and cleared the same by securing the minimum specified marks will be eligible for NEET.
However, if you read Code 3, it mentions that candidates who have completed their “ Intermediate/Pre-degree Examination in Science of an Indian University/Board or other recognised examining body with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology (which shall include practical test in these subjects) and also English as a compulsory subject ”, are also eligible.
This basically means that candidates only need to have appeared for Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English in their Class 12 exam from a recognized Board (in your case it is the CBSE) and cleared the same, removing the need for them to have studied these subjects in both Classes 11 and 12.
Let’s also break Code 3 down in your particular context.
Firstly, Code 3 requires candidates to have completed ‘ Intermediate/Pre-degree Examination in Science of an Indian University/Board’. You are going to appear for your Intermediate examination (which refers to Class 12 only) from the CBSE Board with Science subjects.
What exactly are the subjects? Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology (which shall include practical test in these subjects) and also English. Your question is only with regard to Biology so I am assuming you are already studying the others subjects and will appear for the same in Class 12 final exam.
Also note that nowhere in the NEET application form or in the subsequent counselling process are you asked to produce your Class 11 marks or certificate , but only your Class 12 and Class 10 marks and certificates.
So if you are going to have Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English as your subjects in your Class 12 final exam and are able to individually clear each of them while also securing an aggregate percentage of 50% across Physics, Chemistry and Biology (40% if you are from the Reserved categories), you will be perfectly eligible to apply.
Apart from this, you are also eligible to appear for the AIIMS and JIPMER MBBS Entrances as both these institutes only look at Class 12 marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English.
I hope this answer clears your doubt. Go ahead and apply for the medical entrances of your choice with confidence!
All the best!
