UPSC has a syllabus based upon logical ability, reasoning, general knowledge, basic English, historical, political, social affairs. Well it's basically about an overview of every subject.

So of course one particular course cannot get you preparation done since you need to focus everywhere. Usually students opt for simple BA(program) course where subjects change every semester to give an overview of every subject to students. It's the most sorted course for those who would give any gov entrances in future. Those the course has lesser value than hons courses since there is no depth of knowledge in any subject specifically but it's good from the point of keeping track of different subjects in the same course.

Apart from ba(pr) you may opt for any hons course you would like to and that won't create any hamper in your preparations generally.
