If you want to become an income tax officer , you have to give examination of Civil Service and opting Indian Revenue Service ( IRS) .
The eligibility for writing Civil Service Examination is any degree, age limit is 32 years.
You can give exam 6 times.
. To become an income tax officer, you have to pass Civil Service Examination conducted by UPSC, ,Union Public Services Commission

Income tax department comes under the central government. The exam conducted to recruit Candidates in this job is the SSC CGL examination. Grade B and grade C exams are conducted for recruitment in income tax department. Then, it depends on your qualifications and experience being an officer.

An income tax officer is someone who deals with income tax matters concerning the Central Board of Directors Taxes (CBDT). CBDT is the department of the central government of India which is responsible for looking after all tax related matters.
- Examination to be an Income Tax Officer (ITO) :-
The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) every year conducts an entrance exam named SSC Combined Graduate Level (SSC CGL) exam for the recruitment of candidates in the Income Tax department. This goes as a series of written, oral and physical tests.
- Eligibility Criteria :-
- Candidate must be at least 18 years and not more than 27 years at the time of applying for the exam. (Relaxation of 3 years for OBC and 5 years for SC/ST)
- Candidate should be graduated from an University recognized by University Grant Commission (UGC). Graduation could be in any stream.
- In physical fitness your height should be 157.5 cm or more, chest should be of 81 cm and full expansion with minimum 5 cm. Apart from this you should walk 1600 metres in 15 minutes and you should do cycling for 8km in 30 minutes.
