What's the eligibility for appearing in jee advance ?

Eligibility criteria for JEE Advance 2018.

Examinations which will be Considered Equivalent to 10+2 th Standard

• Final examination of 10+2 system conducted by a Central or State Board recognized by the Association of Indian Universities.

• Intermediate or two year Pre-University examination conducted by a Board or University recognized by the Association of Indian Universities.

• Final examination of the two year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.

• Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with a minimum of five subjects.

Performance in 10+2 th Standard (or equivalent) Board Examination

The candidates will have to satisfy at least one of the following two criteria for admission to IITs:

• Should have scored at least 75% aggregate marks in 10+2 th standard (or equivalent) board examination. For SC/ ST and PwD candidates, the aggregate marks should be at least 65%.

• The candidates should be within the category wise top 20 percentile of successful candidates in their respective 12 th standard (or equivalent) board examination.

The scores secured in the following five subjects will be considered for calculating the aggregate marks and the cut off marks for fulfilling the top 20 percentile criterion:

• Physics

• Chemistry

• Mathematics

• A language (if the candidate has taken more than one language, then the language with the higher marks will be considered)

• Any subject other than the above four (the subject with the highest marks will be considered)

Calculation of Total Marks

• For calculation of the total marks for five subjects, if the marks awarded in a subject is not out of 100, then the marks will be scaled (up or down) to 100 so that the total aggregate marks is out of 500.

• If a Board awards only letter grades without providing an equivalent percentage of marks on the grade sheet, the candidate should obtain a certificate from the Board specifying the equivalent marks and submit it at the time of acceptance of the allocated seat. In case such a certificate is not provided, then the decision taken by the Joint Implementation Committee of JEE (Advanced) 2017 will be final.

• In case any of the subjects Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Language are not evaluated in the first year (e.g., in a 3 year diploma course), then the marks for the same subject from the previous year/s will be used for calculating percentage of aggregate marks.

• For those candidates who appeared in 10+2 (or equivalent) Board examination in 2016 but reappeared in 2017, the best of the two performances will be considered.

• If a Board gives aggregate marks considering both 11 th and 12 th standard examinations (in the 10+2 system), then only 12 th standard marks will be considered. If a Board gives aggregate marks considering the results of all three years of a 3 year diploma, then only the marks scored in the final year will be considered. Similarly, for Boards which follows a semester system, the marks scored in the final two semesters will be considered.

• If a Board does not give marks scored in individual subjects but gives only the aggregate marks, then the aggregate marks given by the Board will be considered as such.

Regarding Cutoff Marks for the Top 20 Percentile

• Category cutoff marks for the top 20 percentile will be calculated based on the marks scored by all the “successful” candidates in their respective boards in the particular year.

• Cutoff marks for PwD candidates will be the same as the lowest of the cutoff marks for General, OBC-NCL, SC and ST categories.

• Top 20 percentile cutoff for the academic year 2018 will be considered for the candidates who qualify 12 th standard examination in 2018.

• Similarly, the top 20 percentile cutoff for the academic year 2017 will be considered for those candidates who passed 12 th standard examination in 2017.

• If a candidate passes 12 th standard in 2017 but writes one or a few subjects in 2018 for improvement, then top 20 percentile cutoff for 2017 will be considered. However, if a candidate writes all the subjects in 2018, then the best of the two performances will be considered.

• In case a Board fails to provide information about the top 20 percentile cutoff, then the candidates will have to produce a certificate from the respective Board stating that he/she falls within the top 20 percentile. If the candidate fails to do so then his/her CBSE cutoff marks will be used.

Regarding Aggregate Marks of 75% (or 65% for SC, ST, PwD)

• The scores secured in 12 th standard (or equivalent) board examination of 2018 will be considered for candidates who will qualify the 12 th standard exam in 2018.

• Similarly, the 12 th standard scores of 2017 will be used for those candidates who qualified the examination in 2017.

• If a candidate qualified 12 th standard (or equivalent) examination in 2017 but writes any of the required subject in 2018 for improvement or any other reason, then the aggregate percentage will be calculated by considering the maximum marks obtained in the required subjects.

Below are eligibility criterion for appearing in JEE ADVANCED:

• You should be among the top 2,24,000 in Paper-1 of JEE MAIN 2018 i.e you need to  score above cut off marks in JEE MAIN 2018.
• You should have been born on or after October 1,1993. (5 Years relaxation is given to SC,ST and PwD category students)
• JEE ADVANCED 2018 should not be your third attempt of your JEE Advanced Examination.
• You should have appeared for class 12th examination for 1st tim in either 2017 or 2018.

- To be eligible, the candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 1993. SC/ ST and PwD category candidates will get a relaxation of 5 years.

- The entrance examination of JEE Advanced can be attempted maximum two times in consecutive years.

- The candidates should have appeared for the 10+2 (or equivalent) examination for the first time in either 2017 or 2018
