which is better- to work in a major company with high pay or in govt sector with stable job?

Well, the question is completely on the person who want to opt, If you have practical skills(actual/working) then definitely you can grab any better companies putting a little effort, a earn a ton of handsome money, But If you doubt your skills, you just super good at academics then, definitely you can crack govt. exams like, UPSE, IES etc...
Govt. Jobs have pros like: Flexibility, Holidays, Prestige, Low pressure but cons like: Work Environment, Appraisal, Control Levels, Selection Process etc...
While Private Jobs have pros like: Work Style, Work and Growth, Job Satisfaction, Higher pay, but cons like: Pension, Job security, Holidays, competition etc...

And Must Remember, No job is less than anyone, because it is just for the survival, but it's on you, you want to explore your life to fullest with survival after a long time(initially you have to put enormous effort on both), Or you want to survive like the fittest, but nearly no exploration of joy out of the work,

Both the sector government and private are good . You can work in both sector with the help of your skills. For everyone the choice is different. So first you decide in which sector you want to work . And accordingly you can select as both the sectors are good. In private sector there is more chance to explore yourself.
