Yes there is sectional cutoff in CAT and lack of performance in CAT sections can reduce you chances to get shortlisted in IIM's.

As per experts, its not the overall percentile but the sectional performance that matters and if the sections are performed well then automatically the overall percentile will

See you have an average academic background. So in order to get a call from top IIMs like IIM A, B, and C you need to atoast score above 92 percentile and aim for above 95 percentile in order to convert your call.

You are from general category so one thing you need to keep in mind that if you fail to get 50% at the end of your final year then i am afraid to tell you that you won't be able to write for cat 2018.

Hi,

While you are filling the CAT form, you are required to fill in your prefered institutes along with the interview city. You will get calls from these selected institutes, provided you have cleared their cutoffs.

For institutes and colleges other than IIMs, you need to fill their forms separately.
