Hi Reddydevi,
Yes, you can start your preparation for GATE from the 1st year of graduation. In order to start your preparation make sure to look the syllabus of your branch. Try to clear your basics and make your fundamentals strong. You can also refer to previous year papers to undrstand the exam pattern and level of questions.
hi,
some of the psus which hires mechanical engineer is ongc, iocl, bhel, mdl, npcil, hpcl etc. you may also apply in research institute like barc, drdo etc.
year to year number of vacancies varies and cutoff score depends on the question difficulty level, number of participants etc.
if you have 70+ marks in total of 100 in gate exam, you have decent chances to get calls from psus.
see gate is a really a difficult exam, and if you dont have real interest in it you can not crack it, and it may be really difficult to do job in IT sector and continue preparing for gate. however some students make it possible, but right now less than 2 month left, and now joining in IT sector is not a good option and you may not get any job right now, because a job hunting is not easy. exam will be on february, do your best and if you think that you can not do any better next time, then search for IT job after the gate exam.
