Can I be eligible for this job if my GATE score is too low?

GATE exam is held every year and is used as entrance exam for getting admission in thr MTech programs of IITs and NITs and other universities which accept gate scores for admission into their PG programs in engineering. Now coming to the prospect of jobs , GATE scores are also used by PSUs for recruiting candidates for their various vacant job positions in the engineering field. Now PSUs in India are divided into three major categories and they are as follows :-

• Maharatna PSUs - Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited(BHEL), Steel Authority of India Limited(SAIL), Coal India Limited (CIL) , Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), National Thermal Power Corporation(NTPC), Oil and Natural Gas Corporation(ONGC) , Gas Authority of India Limited(GAIL).
• Navaratna PSUs - National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC), Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) , Power Finance Corporation , Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited , Rural Electrification Corporation , Engineers India Limited (EIL) , Neyveli Lignite Corporation, National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC).
• Miniratna PSUs  - Airports Authority of India , Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL), THDC India Limited, RITES Limited,  IRCON International Limited, KIOCL Limited , SJVN Limited , Cochin Shipyard Limited, HSCC (India) Limited, NFL.

These are the various PSUs of the three categories that are accepting GATE scores. Each year the number of PSUs accepting new recruits through GATE scores are increasing. At present there are around fifty PSUs accepting new recruits through GATE scores and the number is expected to increase.Now if your GATE score is too low , there is very little chance for you to get recruited by these companies. I suggest that if your target is PSUs , then prepare well for GATE next year and improve your scores . These PSUs shortlist candidates based on their ranks and the cut off closing ranks are generally in three digits. Check the websites of these companies about their recruitment procedure and start your preparation for GATE next year. A rank of atleast three digits increases your chances of getting selected by these PSUs which offer very decent pay scales to their employees.

It totally depends on what job you are expecting and what exactly is your score in GATE. If you have even cleared the cut-off i.e., scored even slightly above the cut-off score, you can easily get good "private" jobs.
