Hello, I am a 1st years b.tech student in private university. The college has kept my class 12th original marksheet with them. Will I have to pay the fees for the remaining years to get my marksheet back?

Dear Phoebe, it is natural that the college would retain your Original documents for the entire term of the course. You will get the documents once you complete the course. If you want your marksheet for whatosever reason, most Colleges give it after taking an underwriting. But if you want to take it and seek admission in another College, that is when you will have to pay the fees for the entire duration of the course. This is something that you need to discuss with the Administration of the college.

but according to ugc guidelines the college can't keep original 12th marsheet with them

But you must have also signed an undertaking that if for any reason you are discontinuing the course, you will pay the entire course fees. You can pay the entire course fees and take the certificates.
