Mining engg in NIT Rourkela is quite good, because the placement scenario is quite decent, lots of companies come for placement also some give pre placement offers These are list of companies come to NITR.

- average package goes between 7-8 lacs

Well raj to be honest placement scenario for mtech is not as good as that for btech students, though mining branch of nit rourkela is popular but for mtech students placement is not 100% guranteed , you manage to do a good internship during mtech chance's of getting placed increases , service based companies like tata steel do visit mtech grads too for internships etc.
with branches like mtech in mining people generally aim for research by pursuing it from nit, also for branches like mtech in mining engineering even students in iit's to decently work hard to get placed, so if you are planning to do mtech in mining from nit rourkela its definitely good , but you will need to work hard to get placed, do good internships etc.
