How many seats are available for MBBS/BDS admissions in India? What is the distribution of MBBS seats among Private and Government colleges?

As of 2017, through the NEET exam, 65,170 seats are available for admissions to MBBS in 470 government and private medical colleges, whereas 25,730 seats are available for BDS courses in 308 dental colleges through NEET. Out of these, Government colleges offer around 30,000 MBBS seats while Private Colleges and Deemed and Central Universities offer around 35,000 seats.

AIIMS and JIPMER, two autonomous institutions created through separate Acts of Parliament, offer a separate combined total of 907 MBBS seats through their own entrance exams.
