JEE-Main gives admission in National Institutes of Technology(NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology(IIITs), and some other centrally funded technical colleges. The JEE-Advanced gives admission in the Indian Institutes of Technology(IITs).
Only the students which are selected in JEE Mains can appear in JEE Advanced. The cutoffs varies due to number of candidates appearing every year. The previous year cut off category wise are as follows:-
Gen 74
OBC(Non Creamy) 45
SC 29
ST 24

The government is planning to conduct a single exam for all engineering colleges in India from next year.
