Hello Piyush,
No, It is not necessary to live in hostel in any of the IITs. But student preffer hostel over day scholing because if you are not with your family, staying outside IIT will cost you much, in the case of IITB and some other IITs located in main cities.

Thank u nishant sir for clearing the doubt regarding this......so I would prefer to live to live in hostel......which will be of low cost.
