Hi,
With 89.5 percentile and OBC category, top South Indian NITs like National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli or National Institute of Technology Warangal for Mechanical are honestly very difficult.
But he still has decent chances in newer NITs like National Institute of Technology Puducherry and possibly National Institute of Technology Andhra Pradesh, especially in CSAB special rounds.
Also, don’t ignore strong private/state options like:
• Anna University colleges through TNEA
• Vellore Institute of Technology
• SRM Institute of Science and Technology
These can honestly provide better opportunities than lower NIT branches in some cases.
