A national-level exam, GATE scores can be used for admission to institutes like IITs, IISc, NITs, GFTIs and other Universities at the M.E/M.Tech and Ph.D level. Consequently, the GATE cutoff for admission to CS engineering will depend on which institute you want to get admission into.

If you want to get admission to the IITs, you will need to have a very good rank, while for lower-ranked instituites a comparatively low rank will suffice.
