  1. Access Resources Online

Engineering is a discipline that requires more than attending college lectures. There are a variety of resources available for the students. It provides the students with immediate access to various research papers, theses, and concepts. All these resources are very helpful for gaining practical knowledge. These will be more helpful Engineering students should also be aware of technological advancements happening in and around the world.

  1. Attend Online Lectures of IIT Professors

Faculty is what makes a college exceptional. Attending online lectures of IIT professors can contribute significantly to engineering success. NPTEL is an online platform where professors upload their lectures. Students can enrol in a course depending on their interests; there are various courses available on different engineering topics.

  1. Internships and practical training

While good theoretical knowledge is vital for engineering, without proper practical knowledge and experience, it may not be as beneficial. Engineering is a highly practical field that requires hands-on experience and skills to be successful. Internships can be a great way for students to get the necessary job-specific skills and experiential knowledge. Various companies also offer summer internships and recruit students through on-campus placements.

  1. Short-Term Courses Offered By IITs

IITs have short-term courses across various engineering topics. These courses range from 1 week to 6 months, depending on the courses and charge a nominal fee. Short-term courses from IIT are a great way to learn from qualified faculties at IIT. Some of the popular courses offered by IITs are Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Data Science, Robotics, and Generative AI.

To conclude, success in engineering is possible even if the student is not from an IIT. Choosing alternative engineering colleges, learning from online sources, and attending short-term courses and internships are more than enough to become qualified engineers. While IIT is the best engineering institute in India, not all successful engineers are from IIT.

Yes, you are eligible to pursue a second BE/B.Tech in Marine Engineering even after completing your B.Tech in Biomedical and M.Tech in Medical Instrumentation. Marine Engineering admissions focus mainly on Class 12 PCM percentage, age criteria and medical fitness rather than the branch of your previous degree. Since you are 23 and medically fit, you fall well within the required age limit followed by most DG-Approved colleges. However, you will have to join the full 4-year Marine Engineering program because lateral entry is allowed only for candidates with a mechanical or naval architecture background.

After completing the course and mandatory onboard training, you will be eligible to join the Merchant Navy as a marine engineer. So if you’re ready to invest the time and effort, shifting from your current field into a marine engineering career is definitely achievable.

All the best.
