Now you haven't mentioned your Category and your friend's Category. Now Category plays a role in being shortlisted for Stage 1. Because there is a certain number of Candidates that will be shortlisted for each Category. Now only your CAT scores will be considered to calculate the composite score. The rest depends on your Academics. Now the official website states that the overall percentile might be higher depending on the no.of Candidates to be shortlisted for each Category. So, the Category might have played the difference here.

The above table is followed to allot marks for your 10th and 12th scores. For computing the percentage, the marks of all the subjects in the marks sheet will be considered irrespective of the fact whether they are considered by the Board or not. Now the Bachelor's degree marks are calculated using the following table:
Bachelor's degree marks in % |
Points |
≥ 60 |
15.00 |
≥ 55 and < 60 |
10.00 |
≥ 50 and < 55 |
05.00 |
< 50 |
02.50 |
The percentage of marks obtained by the Candidate in the Bachelor's degree would be calculated based on the practise followed by the University/Board. Now the final weightage is calculated as follows:
CAT Weightage: 30
PI: 48
WAT: 10
Points for Non Engineering degree: 04
Work Experience: 08
Total: 100
And finally work experience is calculated using the following tale:

19 to 24 |
4 |
25 to 30 |
