Hello aspirant,
I think home is best place for study because parents are there for control and save our time for being wasted .
I have an experience of hostel life I just simply want to say that the boys of hostel life don't let you study in free time they mostly use their time in social sites .they also compells you to go for movie,and shopping etc. And also the eatbles of hostel let you weak .I suggest you all that plzz don't take hostel .
I think if you are interested in going out of your town and study then plzz take separate room for your study

Generally it is not compulsory for IIT students to live in campus hostels but this rule is different for different IITs like in IIT bombay if you live in a particular radius of college you are allowed to live at home or some other place otherwise not whereas in delhi you're free to choose your residents without any conditions, in IIT khagarpur and roorkey there might be a possibility that you have to live in the campus hostel itself.
Moreover if you want to live outside campus you need the permission of your dean and their written consent.
