Is it Better to take Core and low branches like mechanical, civil, industrial, bio technology etc. in tier 2-3 NITs or is it better to take same branches in top colleges in banglore like RVCE, BMSCE, MSRIT etc through Comedk
Hello Dear Student,
For most students, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial Engineering at top Bangalore colleges such as RV College of Engineering, BMS College of Engineering, and M. S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology is often a better choice than the same branches at lower-ranked NITs.
The biggest advantage is the ecosystem. Bangalore offers far more internships, industry exposure, startup opportunities, and off-campus placement options. These colleges also have strong alumni networks and attract a large number of recruiters, including companies that hire students from core branches into software and analytics roles.
That said, there are situations where an NIT may be preferable:
- If keeping costs low is a major priority.
- If you're specifically targeting GATE, higher studies, research, or PSU careers.
- If the NIT is not a lower-tier one but a reasonably established campus with strong placements in your branch.
For branch choice:
- Mechanical and Civil remain solid core engineering options and provide flexibility for both core and non-core careers.
- Industrial Engineering can be valuable for operations, analytics, consulting, and manufacturing roles.
- Biotechnology is more specialized and often benefits from higher studies; it generally offers fewer direct industry opportunities than Mechanical or Civil.
Overall, if the comparison is Mechanical/Civil at RVCE, BMSCE, or MSRIT versus Mechanical/Civil at a newer or lower-tier NIT , the Bangalore colleges are often the stronger career choice.
Hope it helps!
