The chances to get an NIT is tottaly based upon your rank. As the cutoff ranks fluctuate every year according to the cutoff marks. The number of students appearing sets the range of the cutoff marks, all you can do is prepare and score well.

All the calculation is based on the rank you obtain. Last year closing rank was around 3000 for the students in NIT Kurukshetra. The rank varies every year according to the marks and top scores. Also, the rank changes for every college depending on every aspect.
