• VIT claims to be the best private university in India. You may see the MHRD rankings to know the ranking of each of the universities. VIT maintains its rank under 15 among the top elite colleges/universities of India. It even claims to be better than some IIT's as well as most of the NITs. VIT keeps on getting awards frequently for their achievements, as they received just now from the president of India.
• LPU's website too claims to have the support of some of the big politicians of the nation. Even the prime minister has visited the university.
• The location of VIT (near to silicon valley) allows better placements as compared to LPU.

Concluding I may say, VIT is still better than LPU, you get more exposure to culture as well as you adapt more, you get out of your comfort zone. There is a huge difference between studying in a North university and studying in a South University. But still, if you wish to plan to go to a nearby university, you may consider either. People belonging to North when coming to VIT, aren't able to go home much. The college(VIT) is said to be a disciplined one, and quite strict. The vacation, in VIT, is quite less especially for festivals celebrated in the North, such as Holi... There is no such case in LPU.
