On September 4th, 1978, Anna University was founded as a unitary type of university. The late Dr. C. N. Annadurai, a former chief minister of Tamil Nadu, inspired the naming of this university. It encourages collaboration between the academic and industry communities in addition to advancing research and distributing knowledge obtained therefrom.
