The Eligibility Criteria is (Qualifying Exam) Pass with 60% aggregate marks in 10+2 (with Physics, Mathematics, and English) or equivalent, subject to qualifying LPUNEST.

For a candidate, who has not studied English as a subject, the condition of English may be waived off provided the candidate in his qualifying exam has studied in English medium. (5% relaxation to North-East states and Sikkim candidates/ Defence Personnel and their Dependents/ Wards of Kashmiri Migrants)

The course aims at enabling the student to Effectively build and communicate the solutions using learnings from basic mechanical engineering, basic sciences, mathematics, and computational skills and tools. He should have the ability to design using Design of Machine Elements theories and to create prototypes using relevant manufacturing technology. He should acquire the Capability of building efficient energy conversion systems using a basic understanding of Thermodynamics, Heat transfer, and Fluid Mechanics.

He should demonstrate the ability to propose cost-effective optimized solutions using simulated environments of Computer-aided design, computer-aided manufacturing, and computer-aided engineering.

The highest salary package offered to mechanical branch students is 31 LPA, while the average salary is 4.8 LPA. Top recruiting companies are Bosch, ONGC, Ashok Leyland, Hitachi, etc.

Though VIT Vellore is a much better university than SRM or LPU, however as far as Mechanical Engineering is concerned, you should prefer SRMIST over VIT Vellore. Being located near IT and Industrial Hubs of Chennai as well as Research and Startup Hubs like the IITM Research Park provides excellent impetus in scope and training prospects. Most of the Top Companies like TVS, Bajaj Auto, Ford, Schaffeler, Tata Advanced Systems, TCS, Infosys, ISUZU, TAFE India, Sundaram, AVTEC, Accenture, L&T recruit students from Department of Mechanical Engineering at SRMIST. However this is my perception and if you are interested in developing a career in IT/Software/Finance/Analytics going to a better University like VIT with excellent infrastructure, faculty and research facilties, might be a better choice.
