To get admission to the Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, it is compulsory to have appeared in JEE exams. There are two criteria for getting admission in TIET. One is on the basis of your JEE score and the other one is on the basis of your 12th class percentage. 70% of the total seats for BE/BTECH course will be filled on the basis of JEE main score you must have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination with at least 60% marks (55% for SC/ST candidates) in the aggregate of three subjects, Physics, Mathematics and any one subject out of Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, and Technical Vocational subject. And the rest 30% seats will be filled on the basis of 10+2 marks in PCM merit or equivalent examination in the aggregate of three subjects, namely, Physics, Mathematics and any one subject out of Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology and Technical Vocational subject. The selection procedure in Thapar University for B.E/B.Tech programs is based in two modes. In Mode I , 70% of the seats are filled through JEE Main 2020 percentile on merit basis. For this the candidate must have passed 10+2 with minimum 60% in Physics, Mathematics and any one subject out of Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology and Technical Vocational subject.

In Mode II, 30% of the seats are filled on merit basis for the candidates securing minimum 75% in PCM or Physics, Mathematics and any one subject out of Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology and Technical Vocational subject. Also the candidate should have appeared JEE MAIN 2020
